Google Solar Panel Project
On December 02, 2007 in Uncategorized
Google has a very cool page up detailing their solar panel project at the “Googleplex”
http://www.google.com/corporate/solarpanels/home
The site has performance graphs for 24hours, and 7days, and also gives you raw numbers (kilowatt-hours) for the last 24 hours, last 7 days, and since June 18, 2007 when the project began.
As of the writing of this article they have produced 606,390 kilowatt-hours since the project’s beginning, 7,459 kilowatt-hours in the past week, and 1,044 kilowatt-hours in the last 24 hours.
One of the things I like best about the page is that it gives you all this data, and then for anyone confused by the kilowatt-hour production numbers, it gives equivalents, like :
“1,044 kilowatt-hours is equivalent to …
379 loads of laundry”
or
“8,700 hours of flat screen TV watching”
or
“2,227 hairdryers for 15 minutes”
or
“4,350 alarm clocks for 24 hours”
Even better, Google cites the source of this data right underneath.. “appliance energy consumption data from Department of Energy”
At the bottom of the page is an interactive picture slide show so that you can see what the panels look like on the roof of Google’s buildings, and a section labeled “How Can I Learn More?” that maybe someday my site’s link will be included in ![]()
